Story behind the design
We wanted to join modern way of understanding a good quality of living for tenants with respect for the history of the area and traditionally used material to fit both context and human needs.
Therefore we created kind of semi-private balconies that will be half-visible from the outside of the building and will provide as much light as needed but will also protect from unwanted insight of people walking by the street and overheating in the summer. Those brick screens are our attempt to creating special atmosphere of the living and suitable amount of light, in the same time beign an distinctive feature of the building. |
Located in the Sonderbro district, our design proposal was an attempt to create new spirit in this working class neighborhood, with most of the buildings from both end of XIX century and 1960s. Our building consisting of 24 apartments, small office area and a shop, Object fits into context by the used material, similar to the one used at adjacent buildings. Non-traditional usage of it is, nevertheless, corresponding with the opposite site of the street, where one can find decoratively shaped brick, typical for old apartment houses fronts.
